Why you absolutely need an informative Legal Nurse Consultant – Newsletter Vol 1 2016
By Sandra Krug
Nurses know the inner workings of the hospital setting from a unique perspective
If your case involves health-related issues, a Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) should be one of the first professionals consulted. We develop health-related matters in the case, so the legal staff can devote time and resources to legal matters.
We have comprehensive education and experience to recognize negligence, tampering or fraud in records. Many attorneys use nonclinical staff to summarize medical records, and physicians to consult on health-related
matters. We are readily available and devote more time to your case than a physician.
A Legal Nurse Consultant is trained to see health-related matters from an insider’s point of view.
We coach clients on specific nursing issues in cases. We know how to read and analyze records. Understanding terminology can be impossible if you are not familiar with the industry. LNCs know exactly what should be included in the record. We easily interpret and understand physicians’ and nurses’ notes.
The key is that we highlight what may be missing from records based on experienceand training. Non-medically trained staff going over records will miss this. LNCs notice missing documents, highlight inconsistencies, and deliver a complete, easily understandable summary of health-related matters. After reviewing records, an LNC evaluates the delivery of healthcare.
